Don't queue Extreme and Savage duties in Duty Finder
This information is presented with good intentions
The information below is presented as a gathering of
information designed to help new players who may not know
those
Savage
raids and
Extreme
trials or just have heard of them recently.
FFXIV currently does not do a good job of showcasing or
explaining this, and that make it's kinda hard for newbies
to figure out why they shouldn't queue those high-end fights
directly in normal circumstances.
Hopefully in the near future Square Enix will address this
and approach this situation "gracefully". Until then...
TL;DR
Once you unlock
Extreme
trials or
Savage
raids, don't queue them directly.
They are designed as significantly more powerful boss fights
than Normal.
Use
Party Finder
to practice and complete them.
Simple Explanations
Extreme difficulty trials are usually fought by eight
players against a significantly more powerful version of
the boss from the base difficulty trial
They have more complex boss patterns and less room
for error compared to Normal version.
They all have fixed time limit in which they must be
defeated or they will wipe the party with an
enrage ability.
Extreme content is purely optional and is not
required to progress through the main scenario. Extreme trials serve as an introduction to
high-difficulty content and are usually designed to be
easier than savage raids
In FF14, the term unsync (short for
Unrestricted Party) allows you to enter
older dungeons, trials, and raids at your current high
level, rather than being weakened to match the content's
level. Unsync also buff your character's stats, let you
use your gears at their full stats and abilities. You
still get the same loot (like
mounts and
glamour gear) as you would playing
normally.
To unsync the duty, you need to do these following:
Open Duty Finder under the Duty section of the
main menu and select the gear icon on the upper
left corner to open the Duty Finder settings
Duty Finder settings
Enable the "Unrestricted Party" option
Duty Finder setting options with Undersized
Party enabled
Please note that enemies do not yield EXP and gear does
not gain spiritbond when the unrestricted party function
is activated.
If you like doing older content synced as challenges
In FF14, Minimum IL or item level
reduces the item levels of the entire party to that of
the minimum item level requirement of the duty. It is
intended for players who wish to be challenged by the
duties to a somewhat similar degree as when the duties
were first introduced. It is often used with
Silence Echo, which prevents
accumulation of
The Echo
- a buff that is given to all players in older trials
and raids to make them easier to complete if the party
wipes, or automatically given at the start of the duty
To enable them, you need to do these following:
Open Duty Finder under the Duty section of the
main menu and select the gear icon on the upper
left corner to open the Duty Finder settings
Duty Finder settings
Enable the Minimum IL
and Silence Echo
settings
Duty Finder settings options
For Party Finder options, you should enable the
Minimum IL and
Silence Echo option as pointed in the
circle marked as number 7 to let other players know that
you want to do Minimum item level and no echo for older
raids and trials as challenges

challenging content like Extremes and Savages.
This is not the user's problem, and it's also not
something you would figure out right away when you
first started playing this fantasic game.
The intent behind why I created this guide is very
simple: to inform you - new players to know that why
directly queue
Extremes
trials or
Savage
raids in Duty Finder is not recommended. This isn't
meant to be taken hyper seriously as you will slowly
gather knowledge about the "cultures" and etiquette when
queuing duties in game.
This is most relevant in early expansions of the game
(which are A Realm Reborn and Heavensward) when players
just slowly getting the hang of the game and the old
artefacts of FF14 1.0 naming conventions about duties
which just confused a whole lot of new players who
thinking that they must complete all quests given to
them.
